What Blurly does
Blurly provides visual privacy controls for web.whatsapp.com. Everyday Blur covers the chat list, open conversation, drawers, and transient overlays, with hover-to-reveal access. Presenting Mode places WhatsApp Web behind an opaque curtain that hovering cannot reveal.
Blurly Pro includes the same protections and adds:
- Spotlight Mode: keeps the current conversation usable while the surrounding chat list and other private areas remain hidden.
- Alias Mode: replaces visible contact names with temporary labels such as “Client A” and blurs avatars.
Blurly provides visual privacy against shoulder-surfing and accidental screen-share exposure. It is not encryption, access control, or protection against someone who can inspect or control your browser.
Data the extensions collect
None. Neither Blurly Free nor Blurly Pro collects, records, transmits, sells, or shares personal or sensitive user data. This includes personal communications, names, profile photos, media, website content, browsing activity, location, identifiers, and analytics.
There is no telemetry, crash reporting, advertising identifier, behavioral tracking, fingerprinting, or remote logging.
Information processed locally
To apply privacy effects, Blurly necessarily interacts with the WhatsApp Web page displayed in your browser. This processing happens on your device. Page content is not copied to the developer and is not sent to any server by the extension.
Settings stored in Chrome
Blurly stores a small set of true/false settings using Chrome's storage.local API, including whether Everyday Blur, Presenting Mode, Spotlight Mode, or Alias Mode is enabled. An internal boolean may also record that the Free edition has stepped aside because Pro is running.
These settings contain no messages, contact names, photos, media, account identifiers, or browsing history. They remain in the local Chrome profile until changed or the extension is uninstalled.
Pro aliases stay in memory
When Alias Mode is enabled, visible names are mapped to temporary labels in page memory so the same contact keeps the same alias during that session. Real names and the alias map are not written to Chrome storage. The in-memory map disappears when the page or extension session ends.
Network activity and remote code
The Blurly extensions make no programmatic network requests. All JavaScript and CSS required for their functionality ship inside the extension packages. They do not fetch or execute remote code.
WhatsApp Web itself continues to communicate with WhatsApp's services independently of Blurly. Blurly does not intercept, proxy, or control that communication.

Blurly Pro purchases
Blurly Pro is a separate paid installation, not an account-based or network-activated unlock. Selecting “Get Pro” in the Free extension opens a Razorpay-hosted checkout page in a new tab. The Free extension does not read, collect, or transmit the information entered there.
Razorpay processes payment and checkout information under its own privacy policy. The developer may receive the buyer contact and transaction details Razorpay makes available so the Pro build can be delivered and purchase support can be provided. Those details are not obtained from WhatsApp Web and are not used by the extension.
Limited use and sharing
Blurly does not use or transfer user data for advertising, personalization, creditworthiness, lending, data brokerage, or any purpose unrelated to its privacy-screen functionality. Because the extensions do not transmit WhatsApp Web content to the developer, the developer cannot read or share that content.
Children, changes, and contact
Blurly is not directed at children and the extensions do not collect data from anyone, regardless of age.
